An example of a problem:
In a week you have to do a speak in front of a group of people. You get nervous just thinking about it. Nervous and anxious, sweaty palms, trembling, dry mouth and week knees. Why do you feel like this? And why does your friend feel fine about standing up and giving a speech, - no problem?
That’s because the problem we have right now is not really the problem. And here is why: Energetically speaking our past is not really our past. See - in this instant, your body reacts to a hidden - and very well buried memory that is stored in your body (very much like a photo in an album, but including the feeling of that exact moment). You might not even be aware of it. Now, just by thinking of speaking in front of a group of people your body reacts in the exact same way, creating the same stress chemicals, as if you were experiencing the situation of that old memory right now .
And here we are, back to the NOW problem. How do we deal with this? We start working on the problem you have now, and often other things/memories will come to mind. While tapping you now remember a time in 2. grade; the teacher asked you to come up and introduce yourself in front of your new class. You were so nervous, you stumbled over words, almost forgot your own name, and people laughed. You got so sad, and embarrassed, and just wanted to run away. Your palms were sweaty and you trembled and your knees felt week. Now we can clear the energetic blocks that were created from this memory, which then takes away the fear or stress of the problem you are facing right now. Sounds crazy? Maybe – but it works!
Energy Psychology (EP) is a collection of mind-body approaches, including EFT, for understanding and improving human functioning.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) also known as tapping and sometimes called psychological acupressure.
EFT IS A PHYSICAL SWITCH TO TURN OFF THE FIGT OR FLIGHT MODE.
It is a powerful holistic healing technique. It has shown to effectively resolve a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, chronic pain, weight control and phobias, just to name a few.
It works by tapping on certain meridian points while thinking of your problem. When you tap on these meridian points, it sends a calming signal to the amygdala, the fight or flight center in the brain.
Dr. Peta Stapleton Ph.D. is a clinical and health psychologist and world leader in research trials for EFT tapping. She wrote the wonderful book called The Science Behind Tapping. In this book she writes:
EFT enjoys 3 features that distinguish it as a fourth wave therapy:
It is a true Mind Body approach in that it includes direct interventions at the level of the body,
it changes brain activity very quickly,
and it has special advantages in quickly and permanently shifting outdated emotional learnings.
What If It Does Not Work?
Sometimes it happens that you don't feel a change.
This can be due to being too "general" around a problem when you tap. Try to be more specific.
Or it could be that you have some sort of "gain" from this problem, and a part of you might not want to solve this problem.
You will quickly feel the results of tapping. If you feel very stressed, you will soon feel your body relax, as your cortisol levels reduce. After a while, you might find that things that used to bother you, or get you angry, sad - or trigger you in some way - just loose the intensity, - it no longer bothers you. You simply react differently in the same situation, without the fear or stress response. This allows you to make much better decisions that you otherwise would have in that moment. (And parenting becomes easier :o)
You become happier over time, and more able to deal with stressful situations.
Reframing within tapping therapy is a powerful technique for addressing emotional and psychological challenges by changing one's perception and response to them. It can lead to emotional healing, personal growth, and a greater sense of empowerment and well-being.
"Reframing" means helping individuals change their perspective on a problem or issue during a tapping (EFT) session. This involves:
Reframing aims to shift negative emotions and beliefs to a more positive and empowered state.
Yes you can, It is easy to learn. How ever, if you have big emotional issues I suggest you get help from a certified practitioner or see your physician.
On the picture above, you will see the tapping points. Familiarize yourself with them.
Then you find a problem you want to work on (ex: I am so worried about that presentation I have to give at work tomorrow)
Then you rate the intensity of the discomfort (10 being the most discomfort and 0 being no discomfort or neutral).
While tapping on your KC point (side of the hand) you say:
Even though I (and here you state your problem, ex: Even though I am really worried about the presentation I have to do at work tomorrow) I deeply and completely love and accept myself. Repeat this 3 times while tapping on the KC-point.
Then you go through the points, starting at the EB and tap while you say the name of the problem: ex "I have to do a presentation", tap as long as it takes to say it.
You say that while you tap each point: SE, UE, UN, CH, CB, UA and TH. After a few rounds you rate the intensity of discomfort again. (You can also talk, like you would explain the problem and how it makes you feel, to a friend, while tapping through the points.
